In the world of cliche phrases, perhaps none is more true than “everything ain’t for everybody.” People come in all forms so why do we expect designers to be one note?
When you’re on the hunt for the right designer for your website or graphic design project, here are a few things to consider:
Check their portfolio.
This seems obvious, right? You’d be surprised how many people don’t do that though! If you see their prior work and you aren’t impressed, perhaps their working style isn’t what you’re looking for.
Compare your aesthetic to theirs.
Are they more flashy? Elegant? Minimalistic? Chances are they will create your site using their pre-established aesthetic. Don’t go to a minimalist designer if you’re looking for something over the top. You’re likely to run into conflicting opinions by doing this.
If available, talk to former clients.
Want the best opinion of how they work, turnaround times, acceptance of edits/criticisms and more? Reach out to someone they have worked with! Reputable designers won’t have a problem providing you with references.
Your brand and website are direct reflections of your business. When making the investment to get a cohesive look, you have every right to question before pulling the trigger. Do your due diligence when selecting a designer but also during the design process. The success of your project depends heavily on your communication and cooperation.
